Origins of the Korean Population: Insights from Mitochondrial DNA and Y-Chromosome Markers

Analyzing mtDNA and Y-chromosome markers in 445 individuals from seven East Asian populations, this study reveals the complex origins of the Korean people: southern ancestry contributes about 35% to the maternal gene pool but as much as 83% to the paternal one, indicating markedly sex-biased gene flow.
