Fourteen new genomes from Guangxi cave burials confirm them as ancestors of Kra–Dai and Hmong–Mien speakers, while revealing an unexpected gap: Southeast Asian Hmong–Mien retain far more ancient southern ancestry than their counterparts inside China.
